Master Classes

NOTE: This is not a concert, this is a master class - a public lesson - where a guitar student plays on stage for the Maestro, and the public is able to observe the lesson.  

 

The Baltimore Classical Guitar Society presents two classes, as part of our FREE FALL Master Class Series. These classes are FREE and OPEN to ALL and take place at Hope Presbyterian Church.

On Sunday, October 24, 2010 from 1-4 pm, the BCGS will host a master class with TROY KING.  Members should sign up to perform or audit (please specify) HERE.  

Troy King holds degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Denver. His major teachers have been John Holmquist and Ricardo Iznaola. Additional instruction includes private study in England with composer/guitarist Gilbert Biberian and participation in dozens of public master classes given by various artists.

On Sunday, October 31, 2010 from 1-4 pm, the BCGS will host a master class with MARTHA MASTERS. Members should sign up to perform or audit (please specify) HERE.

In addition to leading the guitar program at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and extensive masterclass/festival teaching, Martha Masters teaches annually at the National Guitar Workshop Classical Summit in Connecticut , and on WorkshopLive.com.

She is also currently General Manager and Executive Vice President of the Guitar Foundation of America (GFA), dedicated to supporting the instrument, its players and its music in the US and throughout the world.

Martha Masters received both the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Peabody Conservatory, where she studied with Manuel Barrueco, and completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Southern California as a student of Scott Tennant.

 

In addition to the FREE classes above, the BCGS in collaboration with Towson University, will present a master class with guitarist/composer/improvisor ROLAND DYENS on Friday, October 15, 2010 from 7-10 pm.  The class will take place at Towson University. Auditors can sign up HERE, performers will be students at Towson University. There is a $5 admission fee for this class.
