Meng Su is captivating audiences around the world with her stunning virtuosity and refined artistry. She began studying the guitar at the young age of five in Quingdao, China and at the age of nine moved to Beijing to study with Professor Chen Zhi. Soon after she began to attract international attention by winning international competitions on three continents: The Vienna Youth Guitar Competition at the age of fourteen, the Tokyo International Guitar competition at the age of seventeen and the Parkening Youth Competition in the US at the age of eighteen.
Meng continued her advanced studies with Maestro Manuel Barrueco at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, who encouraged her and Yameng Wang to form the widely acclaimed Beijing Guitar Duo. In 2009, the duo made its Carnegie Hall debut concert after receiving the “Solomon H. Snyder Award.” Since then the duo has concertized in Europe, United States, and China, and recorded two CDs:
Maracaípe, which received a Latin-GRAMMY nomination for the “Best Classical Contemporary Composition,” and Bach to Tan Dun, which has received praises of many, including Tan Dun: "Bach to Tan Dun is a must-listen. I was deeply moved by Meng and Yameng's guitar version of ‘Eight Memories in Watercolor.’"
In 2013 Meng Su began to tour in trio with Manuel Barrueco and Yameng Wang, performing in venues such as the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco, the 92nd St. “Y” in New York, Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, and Palau de la Musica in Barcelona. Their CD China West was released in 2014. In July 2016, Meng Su will release her first solo recording, Meng.
In 2015, Meng Su won 1st prize in the Parkening International Guitar Competition which launched her solo career. This coming season she will perform a recital in New York’s Symphony Space and perform the “Concierto de Aranjuez” with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
